RICK RACK is hiring!

How exciting! RICK RACK Textiles has a number of positions to be filled to help this fun, new business grow and flourish. We are looking for high-energy, organized peeps who want to help demystify garment sewing, contribute to a friendly sewing scene, and support all sewists no matter their skill level.

  • Retail Operations Coordinator

RICK RACK A-SEW-ciate
Hiring for Full-time and/or part time
Roles available on Tuesdays to Sundays
Position starts as soon as March 1st, 2019

We are looking for vibrant sewists with a passion for sharing knowledge to join our team! In our new store located in the heart of Inglewood, RICK RACK will feature indie pattern designers, inspiring fabrics, and killer classes. Our A-SEW-ciates will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to everyone who visits.

DUTIES: – The retail positions at RICK RACK includes the following: 

  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Offering assistance with pattern selection and fabric pairings
  • Cuts fabric and haberdashery to measure
  • Provides measurement services
  • Answering phone and email inquiries
  • Processing payments and refunds using a POS system
  • Signing up customers for our in-store loyalty program
  • Booking classes & processing classes over the phone & in person
  • Acting as an ambassador for RICK RACK, promoting classes & events
  • Setting up classrooms for classes and workshops
  • Maintaining stock levels and assisting with merchandising
  • Complete opening and/or closing duties

REQUIREMENTS – Here is a handy list of the core requirements needed: 

  • Must know the basics of garment sewing
  • Familiar with current trends in indie pattern design
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be patient and a good listener
  • Knowledge of embroidery, quilting, & hand sewing are an asset
  • Previous retail experience is a bonus
  • Problem solver extraordinaire
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a sense of calm during busy times
  • Self-starter; work with limited supervision

TRAINING – We work closely with new sales associates so that their experience at RICK RACK is a success. We do this by:

  • Providing one-on-one training for the POS system, bookings system, phone system, daily email, opening and end of shift procedures
  • Providing training on fabric selections & a review of products
  • Bi-annual group training sessions
  • Staff are encouraged to participate in classes at no cost.

 

RICK RACK Contract Instructor
Hiring for April class start date
Roles available on Tuesdays to Sundays

DUTIES: – This position at RICK RACK includes the following:

  • Working with coordinators on class development and delivery
  • Contributing to development of class resources
  • Delivering class content to small groups
  • Setting up workshops to class needs
  • Tidying up workshop spaces after classes
  • Providing feedback on methods to improve program content, delivery, and organization
  • Tracks supplies used in class

REQUIREMENTS – Here is a handy list of the core requirements needed:

  • Relevant education or experience in sewing, garment sewing, seamstress work
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Detail-oriented work ethic
  • Punctual and ability to work within time constraints
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Understands trends in the general DIY or craft scene
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a sense of calm during busy times
  • Previous instructing/training experience is an ASSET

TRAINING – We work closely with new team members so that their experience at RICK RACK is a success. We do this by:

  • Working closely with each instructor to determine that classes are well-organized and realistic to goals of the class
  • Providing training on instructing groups in an adult learning setting
  • Bi-annual group training sessions
  • Instructors are encouraged to participate in other classes at no cost to better their understanding of how classes at RICK RACK are run

 

RICK RACK Marketing Coordinator
Hiring for part time to start
Roles available on Tuesdays to Sundays
Position starts as soon as February 11th, 2019

DUTIES: – This position at RICK RACK includes the following:

  • Assists in initial marketing plan for store launch.
  • Assumes coordination of all marketing and social media over time.
  • Develops, administers, and delivers all social media content and marketing.
  • Tracks outcomes of marketing strategies.
  • Contributes to the development of a comprehensive editorial calendar.
  • Works closely with the programming coordinator and marketing coordinator.
  • This role may grow to a full time position as the business grows.

REQUIREMENTS – Here is a handy list of the core requirements needed:

  • Relevant education or work experience in marketing, communications, or social media
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Detail-oriented work ethic
  • Comfortable in a deadline-based environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Understands trends in the general DIY or craft scene
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or other editing software
  • Knowing the basics of garment sewing is an ASSET
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a sense of calm during busy times

RICK RACK Retail Op. Coordinator
Hiring for part time to start
Roles available on Tuesdays to Sundays
Position starts as soon as February 11th, 2019

DUTIES: – This position at RICK RACK includes the following: 

  • Coordinates scheduling and ongoing training of all retail employees.
  • Develops merchandising ideas and works with staff to implement them.
  • Manages product inventory and ordering.
  • Makes recommends on products to carry or discontinue.
  • Oversees cash procedures and bank deposits.
  • Works some retail shifts as needed.
  • Contributes to the development of a comprehensive editorial calendar.
  • Works closely with the programming coordinator and marketing coordinator.
  • This role may grow to a full time position as the business grows.

REQUIREMENTS – Here is a handy list of the core requirements needed: 

  • Relevant work experience in a supervisory role in a retail environment
  • Comfortable in a leadership role
  • Relevant education or proven experience with garment sewing is a MUST
  • Well-versed in current trends in DIY sewing/garment sewing scene
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Detail-oriented work ethic
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or other editing software is an ASSET
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a sense of calm during busy times
